I almost died once. Well, at least I thought I was going to. I went whitewater rafting with my brothers for my bachelor party, and—while extremely hung-over—we took a nasty spill on a Class VI rapid. I remember being submerged for what seemed like forever. I was panicking, my lungs were burning, and all I wanted to do was take a deep breath of air. I was reminded of that moment during my first StrengthRx class.
I took an introductory CrossFit course back in 2014 while living in Virginia but didn’t really continue CrossFit until I joined SRX in February 2016 after moving to Los Angeles. At the time I didn’t have a car and SRX was conveniently located a few blocks from my home. I was excited to start and took a class the day I joined. After the class it took me an hour to regain enough energy for the walk home (during which I “met Pukie”). This was my first impression of SRX and one year later it is still my favorite memory. Looking back at that moment, I can say it wasn’t the most difficult WOD, but thinking of it always reminds me of how much progress I’ve made.
It’s difficult to name my proudest CrossFit moment; from competing in my first competition to finally figuring out double unders, I have many. I’m always proud when I have the patience, ambition, and fortitude to push myself to learn new skills. I recently got my first ring muscle-up and will be working toward stringing a few of those together.
